Is a 500w PSU enough for a R9 290?

If I have an I5 4440, 8gb of Ram at 1600mhz 4*2, a 1TB HDD, a CD drive, 3 case fans, and a light in the case, will the PSU be able to power it safely?

Not really. You will probably be limited. I would go for a 650w+ PSU like something from XFX

Thanks. So a 650w would allow overclocking? Also if I might add a second one later would you get a 850w to leave room for Crossfire or only get what you need now?

I would try to get an 850 now, if CrossFire is a goal for you down the road. Additionally, it will support any overclocking plans you have in the mean time (for both your CPU and GPU). Congrats on the new parts friend!

Yeah, when buying parts I regret getting a lower wattage PSU because it would have actually saved me money now since I need to buy a new PSU. Thanks for the response!
