Is a 6 pin necessary for this specific card?

This card has a 6-pin connection but would it be able to run without it because of the low TDP? Why would it require external power?

It was designed to have the supplemental power. It will probably complain or shutdown under load.

That card has a very aggressive factory overclock which needs extra power.

I suppose you could make the card run by lowering the overclock, buy why not just buy the cheaper card in the first place?

Also note that if you have a PSU that doesn't even have a six-pin connector, you almost certainly have a PSU that has no business being hooked up to a GPU.

The system will not even boot up without that power connector plugged in.

Thanks for the responses, it’s for a prebuilt and was actually $149.99USD but i’ll need to spend a little extra for a new psu it seems
