Hi, i was looking to upgrade my 7870 to a r9 290, but was wondering if my "widetech 650 watt" psu would be enough for it. (I have a amd 8350 processor).
Thanks in advance.

Full specs:
Motherboard: msi 970 g46
CPU: amd fx 8350
Psu: Widetech 650 watt (not a huge brand)
Ram: 3 sticks of 8gb ddr3 (24gb)

the wattage is more than fine, though i've never heard of that psu manufacturer. i would of course recommend that wattage or maybe 700w if you want to crossfire, but go for seasonic, corsair, or the v series cooler masters.

yeah, if something was to happen that the psu wasn't rated against it could fry the components or if the ripple suppression is bunk it can fry the components, or maybe the rated wattage is off, or the amperage is off. it really can be a bad bad thing to have a crap psu. the nice thing about a top brand like seasonic is the quality of all parts, the noise level of the fan (my seasonic fan doesn't turn on till 40% load or higher). i know it sucks to spend more but that one upgrade can really make a decent system awesome!
