I have a pc connected to a Compaq WF1907 19" monitor, its 1440 by 900. I recently bought a dvi to hdmi converter so I can connect my ps3 to the same monitor as well so I can just change video outputs whenever I want to use either of them but I ran into a issue where the ps3 can only display 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Of course there are lower resolutions but I wont get into that. Now my monitor is 900p so I would have to scale down the ps3 to 720p to play it on my monitor. Now I have no problems with that but my monitor has an aspect ratio of 16:10 and the ps3 is 16:9 so it looks streched vertically and is missing some pixels horizontally so that irritates me, but to make things even worse, I have a Sylvania 720p HDTv that looks SOOOOOO much better than what is currently displayed on this montior, and for some reason I was able to make it display 1080i with that monitor? So I have two questions: Would the ps3 look better with a 720p 16:9 monitor compared to this 16:10 900p monitor? and question number two is Why would a 720p tv like this Sylvania LC225SSX 22", have a resolution output on the ps3 of 1080i? I also wonder why this looks much better than the 900p monitor and it is also 3" bigger, so the pixels should be more spread out?

Because 1080i is its native resolution. As written here ( http://www.cnet.com/products/sylvania-lc225ssx/specs/ ) The tv does support 720p and some other resolutions below that. So the PS3 "upscales" the resolution from 720p to 1080i (1366 x 768). :)
Short and simple. Yes your PS3 will look better in a 720p monitor (graphics wise). As far as I know, the games for PS3 and XBOX 360 are in 720p, so when you play a game not in the native resolution of the monitor you're using, things get blurry and just terrible in general (not just consoles, PC works the same way). When you play on a monitor that has a higher resolution, the console will try to "upscale" 720p to the resolution of your monitor.
