I have a prebuilt Asus CM6730 from 2013 that I got as a present, and was wondering if the motherboard would be able to handle the GTX 980 ti. Specifically, the MSI Gaming edition as I have heard it has different plugs to other cards. Will it be compatible with my pc?

Your motherboard can handle the card. It will require atleast 600w PSU. If your psu does not support two 8 pin pcie cables, your psu is not sufficient enough to power a GTX 980Ti.

Edit: Took me too much time to reply and Shernel22 got ahead of me. But i'll keep my post for everyone to read.

As far as your MoBo goes, as long as it has one PCIe x16 slot, i don't see any restrictions. Even if your PCIe x16 slot is 2.0 or 1.0, the GPU does work but on reduced performance since GPU uses PCIe x16 version 3.0.

But restiction does arise with your PSU. GTX 980 Ti consumes 250W and recommended PSU wattage is 600.
Your PSU also has to have 1x 8-pin and 1x 6-pin PCIe power connectors to power the card. For more powerful MSI GTX 980 Ti cards, you need 2x 8-pin PCIe connectors.

That being said, i don't think you have powerful enough PSU with right power connectors to use the card.

Or you can just upgrade your PSU aswell.
I recommend atleast Seasonic S12II-620

or for more breathing room, Seasonic S12G-750.
