Hi all, I just recently got a Asus Rog 290X platinum graphics card.
The psu I currently have in the system is a Thermal Take 750w Unit.
It is quiet old now, and I know as power supply's age they become less efficient at out putting the correct voltage, and amps from the unit.
It`s maybe six years old anyway.
The problem is with the Asus ROG Platinum 290x card fitted into the pci-e slot of the motherboard.
Even at windows desktop or while watching a video Via VLC player the card will black screen and produce static or crackling sounds.
I have done all of the usual things like check to see if the problem is not due to the Gpu and memory clock settings.
And tried different drivers, also to see if it remedy`s the problem.
When going into games it takes about ten to 30 seconds before the card exhibits the exact same symptoms.
The Specs of my system are:
Amd FX 4300 Quad core cpu.
Asus M5A99X Evo 2.0
16 GB of Kingston hyper fury memory at 2400Mhz.
1 x Kingston V300 240GB SSD.
1x Seagate 2.5" SSHD 1TB
3 Seagate 1 TB 3.5" drives.
1x Samsung dvd/ cd rewriter.
5 x 140mm system fans.
A corsair H60 water cooler.
Thermal Take 750w PSU.
I suspect the TT Psu is the cause of all the problems.
Prior to the Asus ROG 290X Platinum I had a 7970 3GB in the system and it worked flawlessly.
And I removed the old video driver for the 7970 card before fitting the new 290X card.
So would you guys say, since the power supply is of a decent age it is the cause of all the problems due to wear and tear and age of the unit ?
I know a 290X can draw a heck of a lot of wattage, and amps when under full load.
What bugs me is the card still borks out like I said playing videos sometimes using VLC player.
