Do I need to have a cat5 outlet on my wall to be able to hook up an Ethernet connection to my computer? Or can I just get an Ethernet cord, plug it into my router, and then plug it into my computer? Is there an alternative that I can do so I won’t have to have an Ethernet connection? What would you guys recommend I do. I just want fast/not laggy internet when I’m playing games.

Thank you in advance

If you are able to run an ethernet cable from your router to your PC that will work just fine. Wall outlets are for running ethernet cable within your walls (from room to room).

Alternative to a direct ethernet connection from router to PC include wifi obviously, powerline adapters (sends ethernet over your power lines through wall outlets), and MOCA adapters (sends ethernet over your cable lines, through coax wall connectors).
