I am thinking of building a gaming pc and I want to get the nvidia 660 and the corsair 430w, but will it be enough to power the whole system, the CPU is amd fx 6300. I have seen plenty of forums arguing saying that 430w is enough and others saying that it isn't. Can some one with personal experience with similar components tell me if it will be able to supply enough power. I know that power supply's degrade so I will be looking to get a 500w psu within 4-7 months and will the psu be enough until the time comes, but my budget is soo tight I can stray from what I have set my self.
Thank you all for the help and I really feel welcomed in the Tom's hardware community

The EVGA 500B would be a better choice than the CX500. If you can, try to get the 500B right away.

With a quality 430W power supply, most likely depending on overclocking.
With your CX430, then I wouldn't recommend it.

If you're investing into a pretty decent graphics card such as a GTX 660, I would invest into a good power supply to go along with it.
Here's a good 550W PSU I would recommend:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

Power Supply: XFX 550W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($59.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $59.99
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Plus, with this 550W it gives massive headroom for overclocking that 6300, which should be overclocked, and maybe even your graphics card to be overclocked too.

should i then forget about the cx 430w and move straight to the evga 500b 500w power supply? and will it last longer than the 430w, btw what does the CX in the name show and mean?

You should forget about the CX430 and go with the EVGA 500B. It will last longer, but fails happen in all power supplies, no matter how solid they may be. The only variable is of how often and the risk of it failing.

Also, as far as I know CX is just the name of the product, it doesn't show anything or mean anything, but thats just what I think. I do know however that CXM means it's modular, as it is what the M stands for.

For other products, it's still a name like the Corsair GS lineup, GS means Gamer Series but it doesn't change anything about the Power Supply.
