Is a GTX 1080 compatible with my motherboard?

I have a motherboard that's 7 years old, and I want to upgrade the graphics card to something with a little more power.
Used CPU-Z to find information, not sure what's relevant so I'll just post everything I see.

Manu: EVGA
Model: 131-GT-E767 Tylersburg
Chipset: Intel x58 Rev.: 22
Southbridge: Intel 82801JR (ICH10R) Rev.: 00
LPCIO: Fintek F71882F

I am not sure what any of these besides the manu and model numbers mean. So that is everything under the Motherboard panel. I was on the UserBenchmark website and ran their test, it had the GTX 1080 under alternative GPU's; here is the link for that:
http://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder/Custom/S3381-M778.137575.1513.398.89213vsS3381-M778.7797.1513.398.89213?tab=GPU
Because it was under the list of alternative GPU's I am guessing it is compatible, but I didn't want to just assume that and would love consultation from someone who is actually good with components in computers.
Thanks!

This is the graphics card specifically I'd like to use. It uses a PCIE x 16 and my motherboard does have those.

Solution
The GTX1080 is bottlenecked by all extreme CPU's below the i7-3930k. The i7-3930k does even a few games. The GTX1070 is bottlenecked by all extreme CPU's below the i7-3820k with a few games on that CPU. The 1060 is the highest I would suggest if you have the 980X as that CPU outperforms the FX-8350 by a small bit. Any of the quad cores tho below the i7-970 is to slow so get a 1050ti as those are slower than the FX-8350 even in single core.

yes it will be compatible. whether it is a good idea or not is a different question. a 7 yr old cpu is probably going to struggle with supplying a 1080 with the info it needs fast enough. it'll still work but you likely won't see the full abilities of the 1080.

alos be sure the power supply is good enough. the cards break 200w easy and the oc'ed ones can hit 250w pretty easy.

I7-960 will be fine, for now, just don't expect miracles and you may end up using vsync a lot, especially on higher cpu intensity games. Also make very sure to turn down/off any cpu settings like physX, hairworks, AA etc, you'll want the cpu running as best as it can at all times. With that setup, a 1440p monitor would work wonders, punish the gpu enough to slow it down a little and allow the cpu to catch up.

Yes. It'll not be used to it full potential. For now. It'll still be a valid card by the time op finally gets around to upgrading the rest of the pc. Which won't be that long once he realizes just what he's missing out on due to the cpu limitations.
