I am building a new gaming rig and am torn! getting an i7 5820k with msi gaming x99s board and all the ddr4 jazz that goes with. I only game a 1080p, i dont have a 4k tv so is it worth it to get a gtx 970 over a 960 or a 4g r9 380? Just wondering as the price difference is 100+ depending on the card. All of which would be an MSI gaming series card...i just like them! I mainly play farcry 4 and advanced warfare atm. What do you think?

Anything below a GTX 970 will bottleneck a 5820k. At 1080p, I really don't see why one would go with a x99 and 5820k, a i7 4790k will be more than enough but if money's not an issue, than all the power to you. If I were you, I'd get a GTX 970 or R9 390. If you want to spend a bit more, get the GTX 980 or 980 Ti.

I feel you man, bottlenecks can be annoying. A 8320 will most likely not bottleneck a GTX 970, plus you could always overclock it. For a $1000 build though, I'd get an Intel i5 4690k or i7 4790k. Here's a very solid build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/InfernalSurge/saved/#view=tFMgXL

It hovers a bit above one grand but you could always cut the CPU to a 4690k, which is still excellent for gaming. The other option is to remove the SSD.

idk i saw it and was like, thats the best i can afford lol. im still going back and forth on the 4790k and 8320 as well. the 8320 is jsut so much cheaper even with a cooler, i just might get it

I just ordered a 8320 today so I guess I'll see how it performs soon. It should do just fine paired with a GTX 970 on AAA titles.

What's the purpose for the build? What is your budget?

If you're only playing games, you're wasting money with the Intel E and the X99 board. There is zero difference between a X99 build with a Z97/H97 build.

Well considering you didn't state a budget and I don't know if you're interested in overclocking or multiple GPUs:
