Is a GTX 970 worth it for me?

Current System
CPU: AMD Athlon X4 750k
GPU: Radeon 7850 4GB vram
8GB DDR3

Replacement GPU: GTX 970 4GB vram

Games I want to play: Witcher 3, GTA 5

I'm replacing my GPU first because it only has 1gb vram. Am I going to get my money's worth with this gpu? I'm planning on upgrading the cpu further along the road.

Solution
I would go with a 290x recent benchmarks put it on par with the gtx980. With direct x 12 most computing is going to be done on gpu, so cpus won't really be much of an issue.

I don't want to get either of those because the upgrade is too small from what I have. I'll be upgrading my cpu later this year, so I'll be able to use the GTX 970's full power eventually. Is it more frugal to buy a temporary low powered gpu that I'm going to have to replace within a year, or to just buy a high powered gpu that's going to be hindered by a low powered cpu until I upgrade? In other words, is the price on the 970 going to drop significantly by the end of the year and make the wait worth it?
