Hi all,
I currently run a 4770K @ 4.4Ghz, 16Gb RAM, an HD7970 Ghz edition and several SSD's.. My HD7970 Ghz has done me proud but it is beginning to show it's age. I want to be able to max Assetto Corsa at 1920x1080 it won't do it at sensible frames. If I buy a GTX 980 4Gb will I be able to play games at high settings on a single 4k screen (i'll buy in around 12months) or should I wait until the R9 390X around May 2015 to be safe? I have a max budget of around £400.00? (slightly flexible).

You can max as in textures but not AA. Great you have a good time with 4k just don't exaggerate it.

If the op wants some new gpu's and a good monitor with them than a 1440p 120-144hz will be a great experience.
I dont really see 4k as being such a good idea for gamers..

Even 2 titan z's or a r9 295x2 just dont cut it for some games plus the text is tiny at 4k because software scaling is not in place for it.

For that budget your best option is to spend a little bit more on two 970s, but if you dont have the monitor right now and you are planning on getting it next year, then the best thing would be to wait for the 390x (or whatever is gonna be called). Even if its not better, you will see a price drop on the nvidia line up.

I beg to differ about 295x2 is not up to the task. I run 4k "max" settings on a 58 inch TV, so it isn't impossible, you just have to be willing and determined. But to answer the main question, 1 gtx 980 is not enough, at least 3 if you want to get up to high settings at 4k.

Even 970 SLI isn't really enough for 4K Gaming though with the 4K G-Sync you could likely get away with it just about. But a single 980 is not going to cut it in 4K a single 980 isn't really enough to even completely max out 1440p in some games like Crysis 3 where as 970 SLI can.

I disagree. My gb g1 gtx 980 handles any game I have maxed out at 3840 x 2160 averaging 54-68 fps and Im running a first gen i7-930 overclocked to 4.3 and card at stock speeds. 12gb memory and 5-120gb ssds in raid 5.

can u tell me does it look good? youtube etc

also wt are ur fps like

i have a 8gb 980

i've used a gigabyte g1 gaming gtx 980 for 4k gaming on highest setting without any problems. matter of fact if you look at my instagram: gaming_computers_are_us, there's a video of it's performance
