Is a refurbished hard drive for a ridiculous price worth it?

It's only $45 CAD for a 2TB, which is $15 less than the regular price of a 1TB.

But is it safe? It should be good as long as I keep non-important files on it, right? The reviews seem to be really positive...

"Limit 30 per customer" probably means it is from a data center if they have enough on hand to express that limitation. While it is a good drive and a great price, you can't really tell anything about a specific drive without having a SMART drive report and some idea of how long it ran in the data center.

If you do decide to buy it, the first thing you should do is run a SMART drive report. You can find the software free on the internet. Look for "reallocated sectors" and it should give some idea of how many hours are on it. If it still looks safe, go with it. If not, it was a $45 CAD learning experience. A friend of mine says, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you wanted."

As far as "non-important files", all your files should always be backed up all of the time. What seems unimportant today might be important to you some time in the future.

Hmm...ugh....I really wanna just grab it and put it in my rig...
By "non-important files", I meant games and movies and other media that I don't really mind losing as much. I can fit all of my photos and other files on my SSD.
