Is a rubber mat a good place to put components

hi, im putting my pc in a new case, and i was wondering, I found a rubber desk mat on a family member's desk, and would it be a good place to put my gpu, mobo, and hdd while i put themin the new case. Of course I will still use a anti static wrist strap. Or would it be better to just put them on top of the cardboard boxes they came in?

Probably better to use the unfinished cardboard. There could be other synthetics in the "rubber" mat.
