I have an asus b450m-a motherboard and want to upgrade my ryzen 5 2600 to a ryzen 9 5900x. I know the upgrade will work and is compatible already but i saw on other reddit posts something about the boards VRM isn’t good? is this true and should i upgrade my motherboard too?

Solution
As you are going to need a CPU and motherboard, I would suggest an i7 12700, over a 5900x. Performance wise they trade blows, but the 12700 is considerably cheaper. That way you have upgrade options.

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700 2.1 GHz 12-Core Processor ($349.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard ($189.99 @ B&H)
Total: $539.98

The board you currently have lacks any cooling on the power delivery side for the CPU. I'd say don't bite the bullet and swap out the board for something like a B550 chipset with a beefy VRM cooling assembly.

if you're case has good airflow, then i'd not worry about the passive vrm cooling. good airflow will take care of the needs. i am considering the same thing for my b450 aorus pro. it does have a heatsink on the vrm's but it stays cool now with a 3600x simply due to the nice airflow i have in the case.
