[SOLVED] Is a standard PSU good? Can it compete with the bronze, silver and gold one?

Hello just asking questions about the quality of the PSU.

Bronze, Silver and Gold are not quality standards. They are efficiency standards.

You cannot use efficiency as a gauge of quality as there are plenty of hot garbage Bronze and Gold units on the market.

what is a "standard PSU"?

if you mean a 80+ PSU, that's not rated 80+bronze or higher --- technically it depends.
the bronze/silver/gold standard doesn't really tell you whether a PSU is good -- it only is a measurement of efficiency. a 80+ PSU will waste twice as much power as a 80+ Gold PSU when transforming your 1150/230V input to a 12V output. Doesn't mean it's a good unit though.

however, especially with Platinum/Titanium units, many are very solid. 80+ white has been outdated for a while now, so I'm inclined to say most PSUs that are not at least rated for 80+ bronze are rather poor (and so are many 80+bronze)

I usually see this on lower end custom prebuilts(ibuypower/cyberpower) to cover up what PSU they grab out of the bargain bin that day and slap in the system. If they actually told you what junk they were going to throw in there they might lose some sales.

Thermaltake doesn't make a 600w Smart that has a Gold efficiency rating. There are also several Smart models. The original Smart series are 80 plus white and are low end.

Oh.. That's weird.

It's an "OEM" PSU, so it must only be made for system integrators (pre built machines).

The "Smart" product line is typically Thermaltake's cheapest, crappiest offerings. I've never seen one that was Gold efficiency.
