I realized that I could save lots of money (I did do calculations) by buying two 6 core Xeon x5690's. They seems to perform fairly well too. I'd like to hear some opinions about it though.

Solution
. I planned on buying 32 gigabytes or more to make sure I don't run into that issue
Thats not the issue. Its memory latency when both cpus are trying to access ram.

There are many issues with this idea.
1 How will you mount this motherboard to a case?
2 How will you cool these hot cpus?
3 Used motherboards can have issues.
4 Memory latency can cause issues with performance and cause stutter.
5 Single threaded performance is far behind any modern cpu.
6 You will need a high wattage psu.

You could buy a modern i5 or ryzen 5 and avoid all of these issues, while still getting better performance in games.

For a workstation or vm workhorse, then these make sense.
Motherboards, motherboards, motherboards. X58 lga 1366 motherboards are very expensive.

Also, there are major memory access issues with dual cpu systems.

These cpus are very old and single threaded performance isnt amazing.

What are your going to use these cpus for? What mobo were you planning to use.
