this is my system specs:
Pentium 4 2.00GHz
1GB Ram DDR1
Nvidia GEForce FX 5200 (current card and its 4x)
my motherboard is ECS P4VMM2
now the question is will an 8x agp card work in my motherboard i think ive seen in the bios that it only has an option from 1x to 4x so i thought that only 4x card will work . tnx for someone who will help

Solution
if it is a 1x/4x mobo, I am almost certain that the 8x card will not work or even fit into the slot.

1x/4x mobo should provide either 3.3V or 1.5V.

8x requires a mobo that provides 0.8V.
aren't these backwards compatible?
i don't really remember (i mean it is agp) but i can't recall having issues with gpu's regarding the agp 8/4x's
i mean, pci-e has no issues with these right? it may run slower yes, but i think it should be ok. i may be wrong though

oh ! is that so i only want the compatibility because im going to play Left for Dead 2 in my pc and my system doesnt meet the requirements so instead i will upgrade just my gpu to 8x interface but here's an awesome part on my current card Nvidia GEForce FX 5200 i can play EA Red Alert™ 3 isnt it disturbing

there used to be 1x/4x mobos and 4x/8x mobos

1x/4x voltage was 3.3V keyed
4x/8x voltage was 1.5V keyed

the problem is that some of the late card had two notches which falsely would allow them to be plugged into the 3.3V mobos and could cause damage to video card and mobo.
