is am3 and am3+ cross....

I have an old Athlon 2 dual core processor on this Asus mobo M4N68T-M-V2 and I want to freshen it up a bit with a NEW AMD FX Six-Core Processor FX-6300 3.5GHz Socket AM3+ FD6300WMHKBOX CPU FAN. I want to be sure that combo would work.

It won't. You would need a new board or to find yourself a Phenom X6 6core AM3 chip on ebay.

Supported processors.

OK I was looking for that page and for whatever reason the asus site wouldn't give me that mobo. THANK YOU! So since you all seem to really know your stuff Lemme ask this. I have an AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana Triple-Core 3.3GHz Socket AM3 95W ADX455WFGMBOX Desktop Processor in my other computer that I happened to notice is compatible with the ASUS mobo listed above. Will putting that processor in there give me a noticeable difference over the AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor Dual-Core 2.8GHz Socket AM3 65W ADX240OCGQBOX Processor I have in there now? I have a limited knowledge of what all the CPU specs mean. The mobo I have in my other PC MSI AM3 USB 3.0 + SATA 6Gb/s 890GX Chipset AMD Motherboard 890GXM-G65 has a much wider range of CPU's that are still on the market that will give me a boost in performance,

I hate to compile questions on you but I have a few more. of the am3 FX processors which one would you recommend, the 4150 or the 6200? Also are the X6 core phenoms 1090/1100 as good as they've been advertised. The other huge question is will I have to re-install windows after swapping CPU's? I've never swapped CPU's after I had a computer together.

Well my other computer can run the FX4150 and FX6200 and I can still buy them new. So I guess ultimately are either of them better than the X6 1100? And will I have to reinstall windows afteR processor swapping? I only need to deal with the one computer here but if I can upgrade both of them for $100 that sounds better.

The 1100T is a way better cpu than those early FX chips. All those motherboards are very weak that you listed. Old chipsets and poor power phases.

I'm not heavily into gaming probably the most demanding game i play is War Thunder which my 6870 graphics card eats for lunch. I know the card is old but it still gets the job done. I'm on a budget and not looking for a state of the art gaming computer. I'm not opposed to upgrading a board and CPU I just don't have big bucks to blow. The X3 455 processor I own has handled everything I've tossed at it gracefully if that gives you a description of my used demand. After some recent research I've latched onto the FX-6350 chip. I have a gt520 video card (weak I know) and 8gb kingston hyperX ddr3 1600 memory. Probably going to buy a ssd with it also. What good mobo will work well with this set up. I don't have a sound card so onboard sound is sought after.
