I am thinking of getting it, as its quite cheap right now and i need a new cpu and mobo.

And also what mobo should i get with it? I dont want to spend too much on the mobo,(£100 the most) as i need to get a new tower for my pc.

Update: What about intel Xeon E3-1245V3?

The 9590 came out in July 2013, and STILL has only 10 motherboards that support it, so you aren't going to get innovation like with a mobo for an intel, unfortunately.

Beyond that, intel hyperthreading and multithreading beat the living snot out of it, and I mean intel chips two generations back.

If you are set on AMD 8 cores, go with the 8350 - far better CPU, half the power use, cooler running, same number of cores, many more motherboards for it, and you can overclock the heck out of it - and it's a LOT less cost for the cpu and the cooler: the 9590 won't run with anything less than a very top of the line air cooler (maybe!) or a mid level water cooler.

NOTE: I have built ONLY AMD until now; I am getting ready to build my first Intel rig because AMD has dropped the ball so badly on the CPU side; at least their GPUs are kicking butt though!

The 9590 is not a good gaming chip. It's a good chip if your furnace is going out and are looking for alternative ways to heat your room.

If you're one of those guys who just HAS to have AMD, then get the FX 8350. It's much more efficient.

But if you're looking for a gaming build, you'll want to switch to Intel.

It's best to have a fire extinguisher by your computer if you're going to run that chip. I've sold a couple and of course with liquid cooling and the people are usually AMD enthusiasts and they always say they run really fast and great, but I've noticed I've never had one order another.

It's a little unfortunate that otherwise professional IT techs opt to poke fun at this processor every chance they get, but I recently upgraded my FX8350 (8530? I get them mixed up) to an FX9590 due to another PC requiring the 8350 chip and while most of the statements made have a grain of truth to them (it runs hot, it's nearly identical to the 8350 chip architecture, it uses a lot of power, etc.)

I love mine. I already have a Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z and a 1000W Rosewill PSU 80W Bronze certified along with an absolutely incredible Lepa AquaChanger 120 Cooling Unit LPWAC120-HF that keeps the thing like an ice-cube. Despite its faults that are all too often (and all too audibly) voiced here, the chip has extremely impressive overclocking potential should you choose to go that route (which isn't really necessary at the stock 4.7GHz).

I do a ton of audio production with a side of gaming and this handles it without even noticing it. Just make sure you have adequate cooling and a good PSU, you won't regret it. Critics have their reasons that I cannot fault them for, but it is a worthy CPU with incredible speed and potential depending on your usage habits.

Don't be afraid to try this chip despite the various types of criticism you may come across. A lot of it is from users with I7's comfortably reclining and smirking at all things AMD. Others have very good reasons to frown upon it, but there are just as many enthusiasts of the chip (not just because it's AMD) so please, let your decision be influenced by you alone ;)

Happy hunting!

Performance excluding cost
i3 ≈ 9590 < i5 < Xeon 1231 v3 < i7

Cost effectiveness is also poor with the 9XXX as you need the 1000w PSU, a hefty cooler, and a good motherboard with limited selection.

The actual cost of the 9590 is hidden in the extras it requires making the Xeon build and i7 not only faster in every category but cheaper as well.

My personal minimum part list for the 9590.

The 27 second render vs the same render of 51 second with the 9590 vs i7 is a real killer in any rendering situation. And in BF4 it is 94 FPS vs 66 FPS.
