[SOLVED] Is AMD trying to burn out my GPU?

Lately I have this suspicion that the AMD control panel and driver are trying to destroy my gpu, Right I know it's summer here and temps run hotter than normal but isn't the driver supposed to compensate for that automatically, without resorting to a custom fan profile set in order to keep temps in the optimal zone.

I have had this card for some time and while I always monitor my GPU whilst gaming, I'm pretty sure that summer temps where kept in tact with a 2800rpm default setting to keep my gpu at 75c or under and now if I leave my setting on default the temps rise to 80c and won't push the fan rpm's higher on default settings automatically (expected and previously observed behavior) and for the very reason that I can't understand other than to think that AMD is trying to burn out people's GPU's with this error in the driver, or has everybody moved to custom fan profiles and nobody at AMD even cares to make the default settings work properly anymore.

So I don't really need any help with this but what harm could it do to let all know this is what I'm experiencing lately, besides that I still think AMD is top notch, and with quick tweak whilst gaming one can get temps into normal range using the custom profile and hitting apply.

I just like to see this as a non-issue as of next driver release, just as it used to be prior.

Just had this issue with my 6800 XT. Temps would rocket to 115C!.. Turned down the voltage .50 and it brought junction temps down to 70-81C.

Well I'm not doing that cause since we get quite to many power outages here in my country the profile witch would have to be setup for such would reset way to often and leave one with even more troubles.

For now sticking with default, witch inturn resets to default, so no more headaches for me, just pure gaming as it ought to be.

Undervolting the GPU won't necessarily cause the PC to reset more often. If the only problem with your mains is that there are frequent outages and not something like brownouts to the point where the power supply isn't happy, then the power supply will continue making the appropriate voltages. And even then the video card will step it down further.

If there's a power limiter available, you could also just use that.

You understand wrong, the resets I'm talking about happens because the pc looses power because of power outages in the whole country intermittently every day, and this causes any set settings on the AMD control panel to revert back to default, thus the best setting are to be default witch causes the least amount of resetting up to be able to play games.

But this setup then in turn still reaches 80c on a hot day but returns to normal (under 75c when at night)

The settings resetting seems to be an issue with Fast Boot being enabled, because it doesn't make sense that the software would constantly reset itself.

If possible you may try to get a decent battery backup to hold up your system or at least keep trickle power going to it during outages. As long as a ups beeping doesn’t bother you:)

No thanks, I've had such a ups setup before and it's a horrible solution in my opinion.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand concerning default settings on the AMD control panel and why fan rpm's don't auto compensate with higher rpm's whilst gaming.

Anything knowledgeable will be read.

mine 6800 tops out at 60C with 22C ambient, msi gaming x edition, quite beefy and quiet

Sounds pretty decent, What I get here is: 75c and under, under heavy load when the ambient is under 25c, but as soon as the ambient is above 30c then the gpu can't manage staying far from 80c, my card is an ASUS ROG RX Vega 64. maybe it just needs heatpaste after so many years of use, but I lack the tools to open up the card myself and do the job if this is actually what is required here, (regardless if only the default auto fan curve would spin up too 2800rpm and not just sit stuck at 2400rpm's then this would not be an issue) my rpm can go up to 4000rpm on manually tuning, so I can still tune it If I wanted to fiddle with that all day long.
