Is an all wooden case possible?

Hey there, I have been wondering about the idea of actually building my own custom PC case for a while now. There's one thing I've been curious about though, the possibility of a fire breaking out.

Does anyone know if a fire is a possibility? I highly doubt it is, but just in case ^.^ (no pun intended)

Depends on the parts used. Naturally you can use fire-treated wood or use a coating on it.

The motherbaord and most parts should be eleveated off of the surface of the wood anyways, which would all but eliminate the possibility.
The largest issue you would have is a very cheap low end power supply that sparks.

Trying to design a wooden case in the traditional PC case form factor is going to be very large, very heavy, and ultimatly more expensive then even a nice gaming case. Now many have made custom desks with the components mounted inside.

No offense but the fact that you are asking these questions creates a lot of doubt in your experience with wood working or comprehension of the electrical and cooling needs of each PC component...

I dont wish to discourage people from doing their own thing and increasing there skills, but this is one of those paths where if you dont know exactly what you are doing you can damage your PC components. And FYI this is not in any way a cost saving endeavor over buying a traditional case (even if say you had free supply of wood).

You'd still have to have some sort of metal mounting for the motherboard, GPU, PSU, and storage devices. I've seen some people go all the way and do some ridiculous custom mounting, but that also requires creative welding and soldering. If you have those kind of skills, great. But if you don't - and most of us don't - you're better off doing what I suggested earlier.

Even if you were a master craftsmen that is a lot of time for a PC case. So yes I agree with the cheap case as the starting point. I was just pointing out there are tons of examples to look at.

I've been toying with the idea of doing that myself because my dad has the tools to do it, but I don't know anything about shop or how much time it would take.
