Hello Techies,

I posed the same question before, but for my NVIDIA 8600GT 256MB graphics card - "Does the card need an external power cable connection?" The resounding answer was NO. So now I have won an ebay auction for the NVIDIA 8800GT 512MB graphics card. Again the question, does the 8800GT 512MB graphics card need an external power cable connection? Is the N8800GT like the N8600GT in that all you do to a complete install is to just place it in the PCI-e bus/slot?

REHTORIC: My card should arrive before Friday, the weekend, yes! I am looking forward to destroying my Crysis PC game with it. By the way, a tidbit of information that may prove to be helpful to some doing some research on what it takes to run the resource pig of a game Crysis, Crysis runs just fine by the way using my current NVIDIA 8600GT 256MB graphics card. I just cannot resist another upgrade for only $200. Why not?

Thanks in advance for your helpful input.

8600's dont need extra power, the 8600 GTS's do.

Correct. Thanks for your input; however, my question was not about proper installation of the 8600GT.

My question was concerning the 8800GT and whether or not it needed the external power cable.

external power lead? there is no such thing for a graphics card, im having trouble thinking where you got the idea from.

a gfx card will use an internal 6pin or 8pin connector from your PSU, some of them run off the PCI-Express slot.....

Sorry for the confusion. I guess what I mean when I say external power cable is that I am referring to the 6/8 pin connector from the PSU.

My question then: Will the 8800GT run off of the PCI-e slot?

Thank you Flakes!
