Question Is an i5-11400F a worthy upgrade over my 10400? For like CS2

Hi

I want to increase the fps mainly in cs2, but raising it in cyberpunk wouldn't be bad either. I play 1080p.

I have a basic 3060 GPU, an i5 10400 and I found there is a cpu bottleneck going on, especially with cpu intensive games. I don't play enough to warrant spending a lot so I was thinking of a 11400F.

The question is: Is that upgrade worth the money, is it a good upgrade, are there better alternatives or maybe I should just deal with it and upgrade the whole thing after a while?

Thank you and sorry if this post is considered low effort

It's basically the same cpu.
Main difference being max boost frequency by 100Mhz higher for 11400F
(4400mhz vs 4300mhz - 2% performance difference).
You won't be able to tell the difference.

There is very little improvement between those two. Typically speaking you are going to want to see ~30% better performance to make it worthwhile in a seat of the pants feel.

At this moment, if I were to go with budget build I would probably consider a decent motherboard and something like the 12400. The upcoming 14th gen are supposed to be compatible, so should offer a nice path for later.

Ryzen will likely have a similar support path from the 7xxx to the proposed 8xxx. I liked AM4 but am on the fence about AM5, personally. To each their own.

Thanks!

I don't consider the 3060 a good gpu so thats why I was conservative with the upgrade.

How far can I go? How far should I go with a CPU? What is a "good" CPU upgrade in your opinion? I will try to find a comparable one to that. The reason I picked the 11400 because a site said it has a 30% better rating and has a good performance/price ratio 😀

The current motherboard is an asus B460M-A with a socket called LGA 1200. Or something.

Isn't tehre a good upgrade for this socket? Is it worth it to replace the cpu and motherboard without replacing the 3060?

Yeah AMD's new driver just vacbanned a lot of people, check out the counterstrike twitter they just admitted it

By and large 11th gen Intel wasn't received very well by enthusiasts. If you are dead set in keeping this platform it may be worthwhile to consider something like the 10850/10900K skews. There are multiple issues with that consideration. 10th and 11th gen are old enough now that the retailer close out pricing is done. The other aspect are the VRM on your motherboard not being particularly robust. By the time you found one of those CPU and if you considered upgrading the motherboard, then you may as well have gone up to modern CPU/chipset.
You could easily spend more on a 10/11th gen i9 than the whole 12th gen i5 based system, particularly if you decide to stick with your DDR4 RAM.

A pointless upgrade.
