Is an i5 4th gen processor worth it

I was thinking of upgrading my i3 4130 to i5 4460 or higher. I would have gone with an i5 8600k but unfortunately my mobo supports up to 4th gen.

Specs
i3 4130
gtx 1050 ti
2x4 gb ram
asus h81m-e

I am planning on upgrading my system in two more years. So should I go with the i5 4th gen cpu or should I wait and buy a better mobo and cpu.

we cannot help UNLESS we know what you want.
4460 still can game quite nicely, but not much better than i3 4130. Specify the game you want, check fps on both CPU's, check if GPU will not block your stronger CPU etc....
upgrading just for upgrade is usually disappointing. Have a target in mind and only do it if you need it. I think you will gain more from SSD than i3 -> i5 upgrade....

You must just be careful that you dont spend too much. If you can find a second hand i5 or i7 CPU for on the cheap side, it is definitely worth it.

The i3 is dual core and the i5 will be 4 cores. That alone will revitalise the PC, but also the i5 cores are generally stronger than i3 cores.
So if you don't want to upgrade Motherboard and RAM but just want to maybe pickup a budget second hand CPU you will definitely see a decent improvement

I would personally try to find a 4770k and upgrade to that because that is much faster still
