Is an I5 a worthy upgrade over fx-6300?

So I currently have a:
Fx-6300
Radeon HD 7970
Asrock 970 extreme 4 mobo
650w psu
In games like skyrim and other cpu intensive games I don't always get the best fps. I was wondering if I were to upgrade to an I5-6600k, Would it be worth the premium? Altogether it would cost around $400 for the components and another $100 for another copy of Windows. I could possibly sell the cup, mobo, ram, and hdd but I would probably only get about $200 off them. So again I ask would i see a noticeable improvement in this upgrade?

The upgrade will absolutely worth it. The performance comparison between and AMD FX chip and Intel i-5 is a pretty big gap as most games tend to focus more on single-core performance that multi-core performance with is the forte of most Intel chips and is the opposite for most AMD chips (especially the FX series).

I'd say go for it. The performance boost will most certainly be noticed and welcome.
And why spend $100 on a copy of windows? If you want too, you can check out this page https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/comments/4nfzyl/hwindows_10_7_8_81_office_2016_2013_2010_pc_mac_w/ on reddit and get a copy of Windows 10 for $35. A new i5 is a very notable increase over a 6300. The 6300 will bottleneck a 280x/hd7970.

Now you could just drop an fx-8230 or 8350 in there for much less and be good to go, but that is $150 being sunk into an already 4 year old platform that is near end of life.

Its a tough call due to the disparity in cost.

FYI for gaming, everyday tasks the i5 is better then ANYTHING amd makes. For video editing or any task where core count is king, then an overclocked amd 83xx would out perform the i5

interesting, on a slightly different note, how do you obtain the materials needed to sell the motherboard and components? like anti static bags, cushioning like styrofoam or peanuts, boxes, ect
