I just cant get my head around this... Is this overclocked graphics card (https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I) Enough for this screen (https://www.amazon.com/PG278QR-2560x1440-G-SYNC-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B01N4ENDXR)? Cuz i found a wopping deal for the screen for only 450€ Or is it just a waste of money for a 1070 and i should instead get a 1080? Thanks in regards!

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3576475/1070-1080-1080.html my opinion is the same.

The 1070 you provided a link for is $550

This https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-1080-AERO-8G/dp/B01GXOX35A/ref=sr_1_11?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1511782384 is $509 or $499 after the rebate. While the blower cooler most likely will result in slightly higher temps. it won't result in the card exploding or sitting at 100C resulting in constant(Constant Sorrow...Soggy Bottom 😀) throttling. It will be just fine with that 1080.

On the price alone I would EASILY choose the 1080. Then the obvious performance difference between the 70 and 80 gives the 1080 another easy win.

I want to maintain 165FPS on all games. Keeping my FPS at or very close to the monitor's...

on something like overwatch, sure

on newer games you need a gtx 1080 ti with a proper intel setup to even get near those fps

like maxalge said, fast paced shooters (doom, overwatch, quake champions etc) will run just fine.
other games might require lowering the settings.
it's also important to note, that to go past 100-120FPS, a high clocked(4.5Ghz and up) i7 is required for many games.
As for this specific card you picked -bad idea as it is way overpriced.
here is an example of a great card that cost less and will do better job for 1440p@165Hz https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-GAMING-GDDR5-Technology/dp/B076RT2ZVV/ref=sr_1_9 it does about the same job as GTX 1080 at a bit lower cost.

I want to maintain 165FPS on all games. Keeping my FPS at or very close to the monitor's refresh rate will provide the smoothest gaming experience. The 1080 is, once again the easy choice because the 1080Ti is just too bleeping expensive although with a goal that tall it's certainly a good option but I just can't afford it. Can you?

In a nutshell my answer to your question is a resounding no.

Solution

But since it isnt a Nvidia card i cant get the advantage of the gsync right?

a gtx 1070 ti is an nvidia card

It also has its OC'ing restricted. Not until the 1070Ti did they decide to restrict overclocking of the card more than they ever have. The 1080 is still my choice. The saving of $20 doesn't move me because the performance difference is worth that $20.

Sorry about my universal mixup.

Thanks for the answer! Same here, no way i can afford a 1080Ti

😀 You're welcome. Please let us know when you decide.

Okay. Thanks for that Maxalge. You didn't toss me a fish or bone so I had to prove you right with research of my own. Rumorville is a bleep. Apparently the OC restriction was for AIB suppliers aka 3rd party PCB suppliers to others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1IJUThgZL8

Anything that you can add or offer?
