Is an overclocked Gtx 1070 enough for a 1440p 144hz monitor?

Hello everyone,

I'm building a new gaming PC and I bought an Asus Gtx 1070 OC.
Since I mostly FPS games I want a high refresh rate.

So I'm wondering if an overclocked Gtx 1070 is enough for a 1440p 144hz monitor. Or should I go with an 1080p 144hz monitor

Thanks!

Should be fine.
You might have to tweak some (MS)AA and particle settings here and there but you should be able to push sufficient fps in most games.
I suggest getting a screen with G-Sync though if your wallet is fat enough.
You'll be fine. I have an Asus MG279Q coupled with a MSI R9 390X and I haven't had any issues.
My friend drives the same display with a 980 with similar results.
Enjoy the upgrade to 1440p, big difference from 1080p.

I second this. I use a 1070 with a 1440p 144Hz G-Sync monitor and I'm very happy with it. G-Sync is a big part of the reason I like that setup though. Lighter competitive games have no trouble taking advantage of that 144Hz screen most AAA demanding games are somewhere between 60 FPS and 100 FPS. G-Sync lets you actually see every frame your GPU is able to put out without stuttering or tearing.
