I got a tp link Archer A7 connected to my modem but my desktop is stuck with a wi fi extender and it keeps fluctuating speed. So I decided to get the Asus RT- AC53 and make it as an extender or repeater

Thing that I want to know is that poster says pc mag award and I just want to read the review of it from pc mag but I can't find it. Is there a review from pc mag or tom's hardware regarding this router and it's value and such?

Is it even a good router? I've been asking but no one seeos responding to this to whoever I've asked from reddit and discord.

Part of your problem is that router came out in 2016 and most people only talk about new technology.

In general asus makes quality product and has good support. That router is now old enough there likely are few if any bugs left.

Asus runs a common software image but I do not know if that device has enough memory to run the latest versions. The key point here is do you know if the device can run as a repeater. Most there modern stuff can but it all depends on what software can run on that router.

Any form of repeater is going to have lots of issues. To work best it must be placed in a location that it can get strong signal from the router but close enough to your pc to send a good signal. This can be very hard to...

Any form of repeater is going to have lots of issues. To work best it must be placed in a location that it can get strong signal from the router but close enough to your pc to send a good signal. This can be very hard to accomplish in many houses where the walls or floors absorb the signals. It depends what "extender" you are now using but there is not a huge difference in the coverage between devices. So even if the asus can run as a repeater it may not work better.

Repeaters should be your very last option. You might want to consider MoCA devices if you have coax tv cable in both rooms or consider powerline network like av2000 or av1000 units.
