I recently switched to at&t and i did a speed test and i am getting 10 to 30 mbps on the test. The test i am using is MLab test and i want to know if its the test or just my wifi because on the official atnt site im getting 70 to 80 mbps.
With DSL the biggest issue is distance from the central office for your location. If you are right next to it you will normally pull your maximum speed, sometimes if rarely more. The further away the less speed you get.
I have AT&T and about about to upgrade to 1GB fiber. I have been within 90% of speed I'm paying for. How old is your house/apartment? A lot depends on getting the signal from the telephone pole (or ground) to your house, and then from there to your router, and then from there to your computer(s) and other devices. There's a lot there where speeds can be degraded in transition from point to point. I would call AT&T out to run an access point test to see if it's your wiring in the home causing resistance. Oh and I'm on DSL for what it's worth.
I had an AT&T person come todday and the guy said that the main line running to my street had a tap on it and also im at like the back of my grid so that might be it

^^Yeah we are about 5 miles away from it. They finished fiber laying jobsites last year for the area for 1GB. We had some service interruptions while it happened but were given a heads up by AT&T beforehand. Good on them for that.
