Is Athlon x2 6000 the last processor Am2 socket?

Just wondering. I am considering building a system. I was thinking about going core duo but the cost of the Athlon and the MB are so cheap now..
I am just concerned about upgrade path
Will I be able to put a barcelona or some new chip into the socket down the road or is AM2 done?

There is supposed to be a 3.2 ghz part coming, but yes, AM2/K8 is basically EOL

I thought the rumor was they canceled the 3.2 GHz part.They change like the weather.

The new AM2+ CPUs (K10 derivates like Barcelona is for socket F) will only require a bios upgrade to work on AM2 boards so your upgrade path with an AM2 board is pretty good with better performing K10 dual cores and and quad cores still to come at the end of this year.
The X2 6000+ might only be the last K8 CPU for AM2 boards but K10 CPUs for AM2 are in the horizon

I just bought an AM2 mainboard because of the excellent upgrade options it will offer in the future.
From what I understand, current AM2 mainboard will support the upcoming cpu's of AMD, as those cpu's will be AM2, AM2+ and AM3 compatible.
Hyper Transport 3.0 (2 Ghz) will not work on AM2 mainboards, so next generation processors will use Hyper Transport 2.0 (1 Ghz) on AM2 mainboards.

i would use the 5200+ as the high end and a 3800+ overclocked to 2.6ghz or so was the base

You mean E6600 ~ P4 3.8? 8O

no i mean that the end of the intel p4 line was the 570j it was the fastest chip and highest speed 3.8ghz

the 6000+ is the end of the line at 3.0ghz


new amd chips are coming out, just as the 570j was repaced by dual cores the 800 seried the 900 series then C2D

It's not the same man; most LGA775 Pentium4/PEntiumD systems were a dead end because you needed a new mobo while the new AM2+ CPUs (K10) will fit on actual AM2 boards.

New system e6600, 2gb ram for XP
4 or 3gb ram if Vista

but AM2 can may be able to offer upgrade later on

i got an 3800 X2 @ 2.6ghz

i got an buyer for an system that needs an 3800+ so was thinking of getting the 6000 X2 its nothing to sniff at in gameing tests and it only realy cost me £100 for it (sell 3800+ for £40 in the system i can get the 6000+ for £144)

games will run smoother and i not need to overclocking to get more speed and do not need to buy an motherboard for an 6-7 months unless this m2n32-sli Duluxe supports the new up comming cpu that i be sorted for an alot longer

amd fan my self but new system e6600 be my buy but wanting to fork out 300-400 for probly for not so much performance incress from an 6000+ X2 for £100 upgrade (most tests seem even with it 6600/e6700 in some cases, FPS faster that you not see playing in real life) but yes the e6600 can wipe the floor with the 6000+ when it comes to overclocking but i am happy with the good speed i get out of me 3800 X2 @ 2.6 now for the extra £100 not to bad to get the 6000+

barcelona may be an option as well so my motherbord may still have life left in it

the m2n32 sli del has the worst ram config ive ever seen

the dual channel setup is right next to each other ><!!!!!!!

so... yeah just letting you know otherwise its a kickass board ^^
