Hi,

I have bought a graphic card (ATI Fire GL X1 128mb).

Anyone here mind to tell me whether the driver I should use for my Windows XP pro is version 7.88.4.1?

How come it states at the adapter type as “AGP Pro”? It is working well for my PC but I don’t think my motherboard support AGP Pro. Will it cause any problem later?

Thanks!

Regards,

That is a proffesional/workstation card it may fry your board, and I'm surprised it fit your board no problem. What MOBO are you using? You do not want to use that card in just any board, it is highly possible that it will fry the mobo or card. Seriously double check the specs of your board, and the card. You card may support use in an AGP PRO slot (which accept most standard AGP cards), but might not be an AGP PRO card. AGP pro cards are usually quite picky as to the slots you jam them into.

The FireGL X1 is based on the R9700Pro card. Download the appropriate drivers from ATI.com, and yes the latest are the 7.88.4.1

What are you planning to do with this card (games, editing, what?), and how did you happen upon it, considering your lack of knowledge about them?

If you're a gamer return it and pick up a Radeon card, if you bought it you should be able to pickup an R9800P for that price and likely still have chage left over.

Hi,

Thanks for your input. I am using it for 2D, 3D, and video editing application usage. As I understand, ATI Fire GL X1 256mb is an AGP Pro but I am not sure about this card.

By the way, what is MOBO? The motherboard that I am using is MSI Neo2 865. Whether this motherboard support it? I got this card from e-Bay in a very cheap price.

Hold on, if the FireGL X1 is based upon the 9700 chip, why doesn't it squash the Quadro FX boards???

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

Because, my dear feather friend (I felt like saying that, don't even bother trying to understand why- I don't know), pro apps tend to use OGL more than D3D because it is more accurate and viewed as a standard, tho it does take a performance hit in some cases. The FX line kill Ati in OGL, and thus the quadros are better.

AGP Pro slots are longer than AGP slots, if the card fits with all the connectors in the slot, it's fine.

Flame, shouldn't that be fine feathered friend? Sorry I just like to do what people tell me not to, like replying to that.

Yes after looking at your board (mobo=motherboard) I don't think your FireGL is the AGP PRO version (there is regular AGP slot and an AGP PRO version [they have the same speed just different power issues and connector]). As crash said, basically if it fits ok and also doesn't blow-up on start then you're fine.

Research completed. It is Fine Feathered Friend, not that I doubted myself.

That's just the cursory investigation (5 mins on Google).
