What _WW_ was referring to, imo:
I even checked back, and yes, it is in the faq:
Q. Upon starting system, I get continuous long beeps, with no video?
A. Probably a memory problem, the first thing to check is that you inserted it all the way until it clicked
Different hardware reserves different parts of the memory. Especially when moving to a s939 A64 system (with on-cpu memory controller), it is very well possible that (faulty?) memory ranges that were never used are now adressed.
Let me dig up my "DIY - hardware forum - 1st aid"
Generally, it is wise to assemble a new system out of it's case before first use. This to eliminate the possibility of the case shorting the mainboard.
If it somehow locks up during first boots, then best strip systems to it's bare essentials:
- Mainboard
- CPU
- Video (onboard, / pci(-e) / AGP)
- PSU (power supply)
- ONE block of Memory (RAM)
This setup should let you go into BIOS, or at least show an error (no boot device...).
-> If this doesn't work, try swapping one part after the other, to determine which part is wrong. Lend something from a friend, if you need, try 1 block of RAM in stead of the 2 (and don't forget to test the other block alone too). Also try swapping mouse & keyboard! Don't make crazy expenses until you're sure what part is broken. If swapping ram, cpu, video and PSU didn't work, then you may have a broken mainboard.
-> If the above did work, your problem lies in another component (harddisk, PCI card, ...). Add them one by one until you find the part that locks up the system.
If you still have problems with this part, please post back with more details!
Hope this helps 😉
