[SOLVED] Is buying i7 8700K still relevent in 2019-2020?

Hi peeps,

Will buying i7 8700K still be relevant in 2019-2020-2021-2022?

Will something like this, if bought now, still be good in 2020-2021 etc to play on high/ultra settings without issues having the below system, or should go for i7 9700k instead to be on a safe side with 2080 or something or its really not worth spending more money?

The 8700k is definately still relevant and should perform well for the. Next few years.
Although the 9700k has 2 more cores, the 8700k has 4 more threads.
If you plan on overclocking, both can get to 5ghz.

Alright, thanks, what about intel z370 chipset and rtx 2070? Should that run games hq at high/ultra for the next 2-3 years though or less likely having the specs i provided in the original post?

Depends on resolution.
Z370 with bios updates can support newer 9th gen cpus aswell.

Amd is coming out with their newest chips Zen2 in a couple of months. Why not wait to see what they have to offer? Word is their chips will equal if not better Intels and for less money. This would definitely keep you relevant.

Just as a example the 4770k is 6 years old and still does very well. The 8700k is a modern equivalent.

As for 2070 we’ll that depends on what resolution, what your target FPS is and what compromises you are willing to make to game settings. There is no single answer.

The 970 holds up well for 1080p 60Hz

Im using asus 144hz playing v248e or something not at home to check it out playing games on 1920x1080 or something so i guess i should be ok

I think not so relevant.
Today, the i7-9700K sells for the same price and outperforms the 8700K despite having 2 fewer threads.
Past that the 9700K has soldered heat spreader so will run cooler and likely overclock better.

Nobody knows what you will want to do in the future, but today, the 9700K is as good as it gets for gaming.
About the same as 9900K for gaming usage.
