Hi,

I am not sure of which psu to choose. I am building a pc with:
Intel Core i5 6500
Asus H170 Pro DDR4
ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 TURBO 6GB

So far, I am looking at the Coolermaster GX550 550W 80+. As the Gtx is reccomended for 400W, 550W seems rather reasonable. I noticed that this is not high up in the psu tier list but my preferred price is $100-$120.

Based on these 2 shops
http://www.scorptec.com.au/
http://www.centrecom.com.au/

I would to hear opinions of this psu and if there are better psu to get in the price range. I do not mind going slightly above if that psu is so much better than the GX550.

Thanks.

Hi, onizukaeikichi.
When it comes to choosing the PSU, you need to find the collective wattage of every component. Googling "PSU calculator" will yield many results, I like to use two or three of them to see how they predict and make a decision of off that.
http://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/ This is my favorite one.
Id give you its results, but I'd need your whole build. If you can't figure out how to use it, post your build and I'll do it for you. Otherwise, do it yourself.
Good luck!

That is available from the stores I am looking at. I read that the CX line isnt the most reliable from some forums or its a thing of the past?

Due to transport problem, I am thinking of getting a custom built by someone for convenience's sake.

My build is:
Intel Core i5 6500 3.20Ghz Quad Core CPU LGA 1151
Asus H170 Pro DDR4 LGA 1151 ATX Motherboard - H170PRO
Vengeance® LPX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 RAM 2133MHz C13 Memory Kit
Samsung SSD 840 Evo 500GB
Western Digital Caviar Blue 2TB
Corsair 550W CX-M Series 80+ Bronze Power Supply - as its available from the store I am checking out
D-Link DWA-548 Wireless N300 LAN PCI Express Adapter
ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 TURBO 6GB

Thanks for the quick replies. I would have like to get the XFX psu but they are not available from those stores I am planning to go to. Unless I am mistaken, I do not see PCCG doing custom builds for a fee.

My calculator (which Blackbird said is probably inaccurate (which may very well be true)) says under load, you PC will use 350 watts. It cant be 300 watts off, so that PSU would be fine, but I prefer this one if you can get it from the vendor you choose- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438053&cm_re=evga_supernova-_-17-438-053-_-Product.
Both are very reputable brands, but the EVGA one has better power efficiency and both are modular, which means you can pick and choose which cables, which helps to make it look nice and can potentially increase airflow. Their amperage is really neck and neck.
