is Corsair CX Series PSUs good? Overall Quality.

Awww yeah. I have had one running great for 3 years. I would not recommend them for serious gaming builds, only low end builds. There are certainly better PSUs out there, but the cx series is great for a budget. If you aren't on a budget though you should get a more high end corsair psu.

well is it good for those specs?
i5 4690k
ASUS Radeon HD 7850 2GB
8GB (2x4) Crucial ram @1600mhz
and ASUS Z97-E Motherboard

For low end builds they can work well, with that I'm pointing at builds that don't cost more than 400-450 dollars.

No, avoid them.

lol i have it already. i bought it cause reviews on Amazon were good.

I don't know your money situation , but the power supply is always where I spend a little extra for reliable power.

what do you suggest for a PSU? under 100$ and at least 500 watts

The CX is a quality power supply. Especially if you got it at the right price. However, there are much better units that can be had for a few extra pesos.

The aforementioned XFX would be an example of a truly outstanding psu for the money.

i would get something better. maybe the rm series

I have a CX PSU on my very high end build and will be overclocking my CPU soon.

Please help will my PSU kill my computer? Its been working fine though .-.

Not likely. Its a respectable PSU. People who place them in the "avoid it" category really need to rethink that. There may be better options available, but that doesn't a product something to "avoid".

The reason you see the CX take so much flack is that Corsair has reduced the quality of components used in their lower end power supplies since 2011. Prior to that, the build quality of everything they had was tank-like. Now they are more willing to cut corners. The end result of that is likely shorter life span and somewhat higher chance of a defective unit.

That said, all Corsair PSU's are very good overall and do an excellent job of delivering clean power. Corsair also has, in my opinion, the best customer service of any PSU company.

EDIT: The Corsair should be able to handle your build with no problem

I'm with SR-71, I'd rather spend a couple bucks extra for a solid psu. If it came down to rolling the dice with hardware, I'd probably be more willing to do it with ram or something, not the basis for my entire system. Especially if looking to overclock. I can't say with certainty that corsair's psu's are all junk or the cx line are garbage but there are enough red flags surrounding them I would just as soon not have one in my own systems. That's me though.

Seasonic based psu's like the xfx SR-71 suggested is price competitive and imho much better quality. No reason to use lesser parts when better are available in the same price range.

Thanks that calmed me down certainly 😀

And yes I strongly agree with you that Corsair has the best customer service. I remember accidentally damaging my H100i backplate and asking Corsair for a replacement, they sent me one right away within a few hours and got my replacement the next few days. I was mind blown and extremely impressed by Corsair's customer service.

I just wish that other companies had the same quality of support as Corsair has.

Even though my CX is working well I should remind myself next time to research more on PSUs. When I was building my build I did very little research on PSU's whilst I extensively researched on other parts.

Well maybe I'm one of the "lucky" ones to have a CX PSU working well for a high end build. But next time I'll buy a HX/ AX series PSU.

(XFX, Antec does not exist in my country and Seasonic is pretty rare to see though)

Cherry picking the two worst Corsair reviews SR-71? Your better than that.

inexpensive and provides the same performance level of more expensive units

Voltage regulation was good, the fan produced virtually no noise and the ripple suppression was great.

"better quality than most of the units it competes against"

There are more where these came from. And I didn't have to cherry pick to do it. I didn't even leave the CX series. I could go all day if I included other series.

I suggest avoiding them because they're sold for a higher price tag than they should. For the price they're sold for there are far better power supplies around. Why buy the Corsair CX when you can buy a solid Seasonic for the same price or even less?
