So I am looking at RAM recently and noticed that Corsair's Dominator GT series finally came back in stock.
Do you guys think that the series is really overrated and not worth the price?

The main reason I started looking at this ram is for the Aesthetic and it would match a Red Mobo (Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z) I really want to get the most for my money and while the Dominator looks cool and is popular, I don't think it's worth it.

INB4YOUDONTNEEDTHATMUCHRAM: I stream Starcraft and do some video editing running multiple intensive programs, so the extra speed and capacity will definitively help.

Here are the kits I was looking:

$290 CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT, 16GB (4 x 4GB), 2133, CMT16GX3M4X2133C9
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233230

$100Kingston HyperX 16GB (4 x 4GB), 1600, KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104169

This Blue Kit obviously would not match a red color scheme, but Ascetics are not my biggest concern, and I would prefer this kit over any other 16GB, 1600 Kit.

no I definitely don't think that memory is worth the extra bux. I think beyond 8gb ram, regardless of your applications, you will see little benefit. More than likely your CPU will make the greatest difference.

The extra price is due to the fact the kit is compatible with the corsair link technology with in my opinion is absolutely worthless, but very pretty in a case. Also it comes at an overclocked higher speed of 2133, which is also not very beneficial for you. You also get lame heatsinks on your memory, which all they really do is limit your ability to build your pc anyway you like. I jsut recently had to buy some low profile memory to fit a new heatsink...do yourself a favor and dont get massive heatspreaders like thos...
DDR3 2133MHz Quad Channel Kit

Copy-paste from the description? I am wondering if the RAM is worth it's price given it's ridiculous cost in real-world environments and tests.

If u are one who likes great benchmarks, than u will see big difference.

However in the real life, u probably will not notice anything.

No difference in the speed.

If u would unzip 5GB file the difference would be 1/6th faster, but it still does not justify the price difference.

Are u heavy duty overclocker> Get one.

Not really an overclocker or bencher.

I read anything beyond 1600mhz ram is not beneficial especially if you are running a 1155 chip. They overclock best in that speed range. So buying stock 2100 at a price premium is not helping.

I would definitely get the kingston instead. If you are at all interested in aesthetics check out PNY xlr8 ram and mushkin blackline ram. They are both mostly black sticks that will look great in the maximus. Dont get red sticks...i see pople put these hideous red and yellow ripjaws in their maximus and it makes me tear up.

xlr8 8gb cost me $50 last week. GL

I plan on going with the H100 but I think your right; The dominators are cool but they seem way too expensive, considering I could get the same from G.Skill for $140. Going with the Kinston.
