An AMD cpu with a 550Ti video card , this is as far from a gaming computer as you can get.

This one has a top quality cpu but has a 550Ti which I don't understand but at least you can change th video card later and you have the top Ivy Bridge cpu.

everytime i try to emulate a similar build it costs more, heres what i got by myself

i5 2500k sandy bridge - 220
antec 300 black case - 55
western digital 500gb 7200rpm- 100
gtx 550ti - 135
corsair tx650m psu- 105
kingston hyper 3x 2gb ram - 42
asus lga 1155 h77 mobo- 123
windows 7 home- 110
total - with shipping/warranties 955

if anyone sees anything to be able to cut some costs that would be nice

go to microcenter for 2500k for 170 i think and get a 2x4gb sticks of ram, there are new mobos like the z68 and z77 which you can get 50$ off with the purchase of the 170$ 2500k at Microcenter

Assuming he lives near one of the 23 locations in the US.

I used CyberPower for a laptop in 2005 and cannot say anything good about them. Customer service is nonexistent. Building a computer is not very difficult and will be cheaper than buying one.

The total for this build comes to $820.91 and includes the new Ivy Bridge cpu. If you live near a Micro Center then you can take this list and see what you can get there for less money than Newegg is charging. You can also shop around and see if there are any sales at any other stores or you can get this build as is since it's less than the prebuilt you originaly listed and a much more powerful gaming Pc.

If you do that, don't forget to consider sales tax. Newegg presumably will not charge it.

Also, if you use newegg, sign up for the promo emails and wait until you see a product on sale. usually you can save about $20 an item that way. It may take a few weeks to order everything but i bet you could save $100 easy....

If you want a prebuilt instead of building your own I would go with http://www.IronsideComputers.com instead of Cyberpower. Like you said Cyberpower is notorious for their awful reputation online so I would definitely take my business to a different builder. I went with Ironside and I was extremely happy with the service and product.

cyberpower is fine if you use the correct components and don't rush the build. they get components at wholesale, thats why its not THAT cost effective to build yourself. however, if you do build yourself, you know exactly what went into it and any potential problems. double edged sword....

Well said! That is exactly how my son and I wound up building our own. It didn't save us much (if any) from cyberpower but the more we realized that the bad cyberpower reviews were mostly bad components/choices/shipping damage and they didn't scare us because we were confident we could fix any problems that arose ourselves, the more we realized we would rather be fixing our own problems.....

In the end it took us 3.5 hours to build it ourselves and we didn't have any problems to fix so we couldn't be happier with that decision.

you can pick any part you want so quality components and "custom" is now fully back in your hands. prices are fair, not lowest available, but they got to make a living. since it's back to being custom, it will take time :/.


You can also print out your newegg price list and call up LOCAL mom&pop stores and say here's my list of parts, how much for the system. Most will at least match the parts price.

I purchased from cyberpower and have been very satisifed with my purchase. To me they were exactly as advertised, great setups for more than reasonable price. I did a lot of reading and research before my purchase and most of them were negative for cyberpower and ibuypower but i took the gamble sinc ei had friends that had good luck with the. One thing you should take into consideration...people often write reviews when they have a negative experience but rarely do so when they have a positive experience. If these companys are soo bad...how are they still managing to exist?

Hi - Just received a new system from cyberpower. Waited five weeks for delivery but it was worth the wait. I'm happy and I will buy from them again. There are bugs and "problems" to be dealt with but the technical support is great. One heads up is to take great care in removing the packing foam (for shipping protection) from the inside of the computer. Break off little pieces of the shipping foam about the size of a marble at a time. It'll take time to break it all out but be patient (don't attempt while drunk :) ) You have to remove the left case panel to remove the shipping foam. If you have fans on the left side of the case the case fan wires are going to come off of the motherboard so don't freak out. You can call cyberpower and they will walk you thru how to reconnect the detached case fan wires. Your motherboard guide will also tell you where the case fan wires go but cal them anyway. You can call them for anything. I recommend cyberpower without reservation!
