Is Dual-CPU e5430 good for gaming?

Hi!

My specs:
CPU: Dual-CPU Intel Xeon E5430 @2.66 Ghz
GPU: Nividia GeForce GTX670
PSU: 700W
8GB RAM (DDR2)

Is this PC and especially the CPUs good for modern games (FC4, AC Unity)?

If not, what to upgrade? The MoBo has special Xeon-only cpu slots so can't upgrade that too easy.

Thanks for the help!

Not 100% sure. It isn't something that comes up too often. Ideally the OS would handle the threads and the game wouldn't know the difference between a pair of quad cores and an eight core chip. But it is the way they are wired to the GPU that concerns me. Only one of them is going to be directly connected to the GPU, and then the CPUs would be able to pass each other information through the bus. Pretty sure most games would not be optimized to handle this.

If you have the system it is an easy test. Run two tests, one with a CPU disabled or removed, and see what it does.

Not really, most games aren't designed to take advantage of dual CPU setups. Those are also rather old CPUs. Still adequate though.

GTX670 isn't bad either.

Upgrade for this would be a complete replacement of motherboard, CPU, and RAM. Possibly the case and power supply as well if the motherboard isn't ATX.

As I recall there are several hacks to convert an LGA771 into an LGA775 socket through software. However, that would only let you use a single CPU (I think). But a Q9550 or something wouldn't be much of an improvement.

So even modern games like AC Unity and Far Cry 4 won't take use of the double-cpu?
