Is extracting RAR files supposed to be sluggish?

It has been close to 3 hours that my 70GB RAR file has been extracting. Earlier still I had a 200GB RAR file which might have taken six hours or more.

Is extraction supposed to go at this pace?

Unknown. If you are using USB disks or other slow devices. Or if that 70GB RAR has a million small files then it will take a long time.

It depends very much on HOW you extract the files. If you use drag'n drop, then all files is first extracted to temp dir - and then they're copied to the destination.
Also, extracting directly to a usb pen is substantially slower espechially when many small files.

Well, I extracted them from and to an external 1TB hard disk. The files were all 500MB. I extracted directly at the folder itself.
