Looking for 2x8 for 16GB DDR4 ram and currently have the Ripjaws V series 2666mhz in my part list but is there better? I am also probably getting a Noctua nh-d15 CPU cooler.

I use g skill ram never had any issues at all. I will say however, the ripjaws have rather large heat spreaders so make sure it will fit under that massive NH-D15 I think it will as noctua addressed that by cutting out a part on the heatsink for the D15 but it would probably be real close on the D14. Most memory from reputable company's nowadays is very good there wont be much of a difference between them if they are running at the same specs.

Patriot - that's my 2ed choice I look at run them with out issue as well

heatsink size style [to insure it fits under cpu coolers or something -- voltage -timings available [last go round Patriot did not offer the voltage/timings that g skill did for what I was looking for so I went with the gskill ]

you think them 1970's arfo pick sinks look cool then find you cpu cooler now don't fit or you cant get the memory in the slot ?? or Patriot just had cl10 @1.6v and gskill had cl9 @1.5 -- little things like that

Oh they are really getting out of hand with those heatsinks, they've gotten bigger every year like clockwork. Cm212 barely clearing my last set was an eye opener, but I do feel they make the best overclocking ram, how that could be in the end I really don't know, I suppose I just had good luck (and massive MIR)

the only brand i had issues with was ocz there gold ddr2 was rock solid but there gold ddr3 was junk and wouldnt stay stable at 1600. then when i asked for an rma they sent me 2 of 3 broken sticks to replace the 1 of 3 broken sticks i returned.
needless to say i asked for a refund as it was nearly £100 new at the time for 6 gig.
other than that i have been really lucky with ram, of the 2 dozen or so packs i have bought over the last 15 years.
only ocz let me down.
