From my own experience in the past (ancient hardware the years after windows XP was released) there used to be some sound quality issues to some motherboards with integrated audio chips, as there was tendency of noise when the computer was in heavy use, or in some cases when moving mouse.
Back then, a dedicated sound card would normally solve that issue.
That depends, what is the make and model of your audio equipment/headphones/speakers? I'd advise on trying the onboard out first then see if someone owns an amp you're interested in before you make a purchase. Audio is subjective as is design, one person might like it, while the other might show distaste towards it.

Right now just a simple pair of Hyperx Alpha S but I do plan on upgrading to the Sennheiser dt 560 in the future.
