Is Gigabyte Z170A Gaming 5 a good MB for a gtx 1080

Yup it will be a nice synergy.

Gigabyte has been coming out with some nice stuff these past couple years. That will probably be my motherboard, or a variant of it when I upgrade to Skylake. Nice choice.

there is nothing MoBo can do for a video card as long as it has PCI-e3
and i can't see any real difference between gaming 3 and gaming 5, pick gaming 3 if there is $10+ difference on price

It will be just fine. Mobo doesn't make a HUGE difference in graphics card

I have an OC 4.6Ghz i5-6600K + GTX1070 on a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5 motherboard.

It is a great board and provides a nice MB software suite.
