For a gt 220 I recommend you lower your resolution to 1280X720 considering that ps3 and xbox use that resolution.Let textures be high.shadow quality lowest draw distance should be 10 detail distance-20 vehicle density-1 shadow density 0.set the rest to max.

gta 4 is a game which requires a quad core and a card with a LOT of vram.It doesn't matter how powerful the card is.All it wants is vram.As you have a quad core and a 1GB card you should be able to run the game at ps3 or xbox quality
what are the rest of your system specs. At 1024x768 resolution the gfx card should handle it with low detail settings. Basically the gt220 is not a good gfx card, which is why its so cheap. You should also haveat least 4gb ram for this game and a quad core CPU (2.5ghz or better) or very fast dual core cpu (over 3ghz core 2 duo/phenom II x2 or better) for it to run well.

hello iam2thecrowe, thank u for reply. i don't buy gt 220. rather i buy an ati hd 5450. and my processor is a amd quad core 3.2 ghz and my ram is 2 gb. i try to play gta 4. but it lags a lot. my game version is 1.0.3.0 and i can't patch any more further because its a crack version. in our country{bangladesh} only crack version are available. so any suggestion will help me a lot.

screen size has nothing to do with gaming performance, this is a common misconception, the resolution at which you play determines the quality of gameplay, i have a 21.5 in monitor and i can play at 800x600, this would be very low quality but would give me very good performance, whereas i could also play at 1920x1080, which has much better visual clarity but at the price of performance, i would say if you turned down the draw distance (distance at which details are present) as well as the traffic and the shadows you should be able to play at a moderate resolution, 1280x1024

you comment are true but i assume most people expect when you play games, you will play at native resolution of your monitor. for example 20 inch monitor often have 1600x900 as native resolution so when mentioning the size of your monitor people will assume you'll be playing at 1600x900 though you can set your gaming resolution lower than that when playing games.

i know that. low resolution give better performance but bad gfx detail. but i just want to play the game with out lags, mean i will do everything for good performance (except change the gfx card ATI HD 5450). so please give me some advice for that. :)

then again what is you preferred resolution? better list down your entire system spec so we can help you better
