hi, i have this build currently
intel core i5-3350p cpu
asrock z75 pro3 motherboard
sapphire r9 280x vapor-x 3gb oc ediiton gpu
8gb corsair vengance ram
corsair cx750m psu
wd blue 1tb hdd
samsung 840 evo 124gb ssd
cooler master 690II advanced case

i thought of upgrading the cpu to an i5 6600k, at the same time upgrading the gpu to a gtx 1070, but then i would have to buy new ram and motherboard and shit you know, pretty expensive since i am also ugrading to the gtx 1070. so i decided to drop that after manypeople told me that the 3350p is a pretty ok cpu, and that it would not bottleneck the gtx 1070. but will it bottleneck the gtx1070? and am i alright off with not upgrading the 3350p?, is it a pretty good performance boost to get the gtx 1070 when having the r9 280x?

i want to run almost every game at 1080p, maxed out, with over 60fps youknow. will the gtx 1070 do the job, are there cheaper alternatives, i have been looking at the 980 but figured, since they cost almost excactly the same, i though the gtx 1070 would future proof me for quite a bit, compared to the 980, cause the 1070 is new technology right? then maybe upgrade the cpu in a year or something

summed up;
1. am i better off staying with the 3350p, will it bottleneck the gtx1070, and will it do the job?
2. should i get the gtx 1070 if i have an r9 280x, is it a good future proofing decision?

Solution
I agree that at 1080 the 1070 is overkill, but it does provide some future proofing. I imagine that he will move up to a higher resolution at some point. That said, it probably isnt necessary to upgrade right away and it would probably be better to wait until prices come back down. Unless of course he just likes "shiny new things" , which who can blame him. The new nvidia cards do look pretty nice.
The GTX will easily play all of the games maxed out at 1080p. It is a good upgrade. You will use less power and get more performance compared to your old card.

Your CPU will not be a limiting factor except under extreme conditions, so no need to upgrade that. You can always upgrade the core of your system later. Your new GTX 1070 can then drop into your new rig whenever you feel the need to upgrade

thank you for the fast reply, and for replying in general, so cpu wonmt be a limitng factor, thats cool, then i can safely upgrade, should i buy more ram though? its so cheap right now ^^

A GTX 1070 is overkill for 1080. and that's not going to change any time soon.
The launch prices are far to high.
The primary reason for an upgrade is if you expect to use VR or 4K
If you are not unhappy with your current setup, I'd wait until there is some competition in the Market.

yhe, i mean, buying a gtx 980 is just about 30 dollars less than the gigabyte gtx 1070 g1, and the 980 ti is about the same, and then i am left with the 970 wich might not be as good of a upgrade as i excpected, and the little pricedrop the gtx 970 has had in my country is 30 dollar drop. so i guess the gtx 1070 will hold for YEARS on 1080, and as the 1440p monitors gets cheaper, i might upgrade.
and yes,i am kinda unhappy about my current one, it stutters alot in arma 3, and i hope that if it stutters with the new 1070, it will not be as notiable, and i currently get around 35 fps with my current gpu, so over 60 all the time will be pretty insane for me xD
