Is gtx 1080 enough

I have a 1050 to graphics card. Plan to upgrade in near future. Is 1080 ti worth only for 1080p gaming. Or should I go for gtx 1080. I just want to play all games at 1080p@60 fps. Nothing less and nothing more. This includes 3 years in the future as BV well.

for 1080p gaming, get max GTX1070.
Going 1080ti is not really worth it.

BTW, GTX11xx should be available still within this year.

you want to get an 1080 ti for 1080p? this is crazy! i had 970gtx and it was enough for 1080p@60 fps after lowering down some graphics options, no big deal, even 1070 will be overkill for 1080p, assuming you have the money for 1080 ti then the best upgrade for you will be like this

new 1440p Monitror 144hz with 1070 ti
i did this 1 week ago and it was the best upgrade i ever did.

Well wait for official 11XX series to know IF its worth to go for 1080. You might get same thing from 1170 with less power usage.
1080 will be good for quite a while for 1080p. maybe 2 years, but 1080 ti will not be any better.

As said high end cards are overkill BUT 3 years later? Probably not. Get what you can afford or pay half for a reasonable performing card expecting to upgrade in 3years. Assuming youd want to play the newest games at good details.

Also theres the problem with screen tear vs input lag with vsync trying to restrain fps down to 60fps. Can rectify that by limiting your fps to 59 using Nv Inspector or Riva Tuner and turn Vsync on globally. Your fps will remain at 59, vsync wont cap it to 30 and input lag will be gone.

If you do upgrade your monitor to 144Hz either 1080p or 1440p an i7 will be required. i5 4c 4t CPUs are bottlenecking more and more in games today with usages into the 90s. Need 4c 8t minimum for comfortable playing.

About going far with 1080Ti for 1080p and future proofing, I would not do it especially because GTX11xx should be available not very long anymore.

Even a game like ffxv. For hair and grass texture, the frame rate decreases to below 30 or even lower. I had to reduce my setting down to 720p. I don't want do that again.

1050 is not exactly strong for FF XV.
GTX1070 or higher is more up to it for sure.
It is your call man.
Just remember, GTX11xx should be available in the next couple of months.
