Is GTX 980Ti overkill for gaming on triple monitor 1080p setup?

Hi all - I have a parts order nearly complete for new gaming PC build and I'm stuck on what I really need for GPU. I'm not yet ready to invest in 1440p (or higher) resolutions so will be sticking with a triple 24" 1080p monitor setup. Will I really need the horsepower in the 980Ti or is that more bragging rights than something I would really utilize? I'm running (and ultimately planning to stream) games like Witcher, Fallout, and Tomb Raider.

The rest of my config will include Z170x mobo, i7-6700K, 16GB DDR4, 850 watt PSU.

If the 980Ti is overkill, what would be a sensible fallback for single GPU card or dual SLI/Crossfire setup?

Appreciate any thoughts and perspectives on the build. I am certainly not against spending the money and future-proofing for GPU hungrier games, but it is a pretty remote possibility that I would switch out the monitors any time soon. Thx!!

No, a single 980Ti isnt overkill for triple 1080p

For example if you play gta v on max settings with 8xmsaa and advanced on a 980Ti can barely get 50-60fps on a single 1080p so it cant be an overkill

It's perfectly fine, you'll be at max or close to max settings for a while. I plan to get the next x80ti to replace my 780ti for 1080p 144hz/g-sync and still expect to turn a few things down to keep fps as high as possible.
