is having 4sticks of ram on 8700k faster then 2sticks

Not usually. The additional physical (capacitive) load on the memory controller usually means that a lower maximum clock rate can be achieved with four DIMMs rather than two. The memory controller on the 8700K CPU is just two channels, so two larger higher clocked DIMMs will be maximum performance.

That's not really a fair comparison because with two sticks he only has half the RAM capacity. To isolate the impact of 2 vs 4 sticks, you'd need to test 4x4 GB vs 2x8 GB.

Maybe the reduced capacity wouldn't effect performance in this case, but I don't know enough about XTU to say.

I can't find a solid answer on which is better. It seems that if both were operating at the same speed then dual rank would be better, but in some cases it seems that you may not be able to run dual rank memory as fast as single rank. See AMD's specs for Ryzen, where the rated memory speed is slower for dual rank than it is for single rank. At the end of the day I'm not sure if it's super important one way or the other.

i guess dual rank being memory on both side is my understanding
That's referred to as double sided RAM, and isn't necessarily related to how many ranks the RAM has.

No. There is no such thing as dual channel and single channel RAM sticks. The motherboard and memory controller on the CPU dictate the memory channels. Some lower end laptops only support single channel. All the desktop boards from Intel and AMD support dual channel except the high end stuff which supports quad channel.

Dual rank sticks are faster than single rank. It's not something to get hung up on though. And neither is 2 sticks vs 4 sticks.

What system are we talking about here? Ryzen is much more memory dependent than current Intel architectures.

8700k intel was just wondering i know cant get alot outta ram although i swear corsair led hynix cas16 3200 mhz ram is the worst no room for overclocking anywhere that i can find just aint great stuff so im sure samsung b chips blow past them in every test seems all flash with poor quality ics

anyways it works but thinking ahead is something i thought i knew then read something that made me wonder. also to though as long as there are 2 sticks in play 1x in slot A0 and one in slot B0 then there in dual channle mode correct?

If you want RAM that can run faster than 3200 MHz, buy RAM that's rated for >3200 MHz.
