i was wondering how big a part my hdd plays in overclocking my system. and if its possible to lose a lot of speed through having a hdd drive over an ssd drive?
what gains are possible having just windows on the ssd?
would it be pointless as my games etc would be on a standard hdd?

I'm sorry if this question has already been posted but I struggled to find it

thanks fin

Solution
The drive makes no difference in CPU or GPU performance. All it does is determine how fast or slow pgms load. If you are concerned about gaming frame rates, the HDD/SSD is out of the equation.

However, a SSD will make a huge difference in boot times and load times, if that is your concern.

1.) Hdd's Do Not have an effect in overclocking cpu gpu or ram 2.) You Will loose some speed over a ssd[Slower load times in games/boot time etc]3.) What i suggest is making a 120gb ssd your boot and some often used applications like your browser etc and using your hdd for mass storage for games movies pictures etc. Also if you do play btf i suggest putting that game on a ssd it will load much faster

Here are some videos showing your SSD vs HDD https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQjc-XW0G7Y https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKV6eAFybMM

I tried watching that Video but the guy presenting it must be up there with the most annoying **** on Youtube with that voice, his voice sounds as if someone has put a bit of twine round his nuts and tightened to get that sound.

The hard Drive will make no difference and Clutchc post explains it all nice and short.

I guess it could make a difference if you ran out of RAM and the PC started using the Hard Drive but this would make the issue not so much the Hard Drive but more a problem with the RAM or amount of it to be more accurate.

A ssd or HDD should have no impact on overclocking a cpu.

If you have room, put everything on a ssd.
And, larger ssd's perform better. 120gb may be too small.
Otherwise use a hard drive for storage of large files such as videos.

If cpu is a problem consider an intel cpu of some sort.
Few games can use half the cores of a FX-8350.

thanks for the informative replys, that's answered more than one question for me as to how I go about the rest of my build. to be honest I thought the ssd's were over twice the speed of an hdd but by the above comment it looks closer to only half my initial thoughts. maybe it will still be beneficial to get a 240gb for windows only but ill be in no rush for it and concentrate on other areas. thanks again

if ssd prices come down it may be worth it but for the gain now clear i'll stick to what I have, my processor is running well I just wanted to iron out a few thoughts whilst overclocking.
2 years ive waited to get my hands on an fx8350 lol so there was no way I was gonna switch to intel last minute ;-) nothing against them just personal preference.
