Is HDMI Necessary?

I'm looking for a decent monitor at 1900 x 1080 resolution and my preferred budget is around $100 USD. For HDMI monitors, the price is jacked up about $50 from that point. My question, is HDMI that much better than DVI? The monitor is for my gaming setup, which runs a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950. Would I notice the difference?

No difference in video quality between DVI and HDMI assuming the same quality components are used. The one benefit of HDMI is that it can carry both audio and video signals to the monitor. Of course, if the monitor does not have speakers, then there would be no sound.
